I am a huge fan of supporting local even before the pandemic. As a food blogger I had the opportunity to meet many passionate people in our local food and beverage industry. It is the passion and dedication that I most admire and I want to continue supporting these people.
I have been a huge fan of Swirl wine store, specializing in BC wines for many years now. They have a selection of hard to attain BC wines they are usually sold only at the winery – usually from Okanagan BC.
As many restaurants in metro Vancouver close their doors to the public a few kitchens remain open. Here are some creative ways restaurants are helping their staff and each other. As well as ways that we all can help.
New Options Help Guests Enjoy Nuba’s Modern Middle Eastern Fare, Beer and Wine in the Comfort of Own Homes, Restock Fridges and Pantries During COVID-19 Crisis.
Nuba introduces two new meal kits available for advance orders Mondays through Sundays exclusively for delivery through nuba.ca/meal-kits.
For direct delivery of Nuba menu items, wine and beer in the Downtown Vancouver and Kitsilano areas, go to nuba.ca and choose delivery during checkout or call your local restaurant at the numbers listed below. Guests are encouraged to add a tip through the shipping options and orders will be sent out approximately 25 minutes after ordering. Guests located outside of the direct delivery radius can also order delivery through DoorDash, Foodora and Uber Eats.
Following the BC Government’s directive to cancel all events for 50 people or more, Tinhorn Creek have postponed their May and June Concerts. The May Concert (The Steadies) has been postponed until July 11, 2020. The June Concert (Attica Riots) has been postponed until August 8, 2020. The Season Passes already issued for these events will be valid for the new Concert Series dates: July 11, 2020, July 25, 2020, August 8, 2020, and August 22, 2020.

With all the uncertainty that we all face it is a time to come together to get through this ordeal. When I saw this come across my email I jumped in to help.
Superflux went from having zero website to launching an online store and beer delivery service in partnership with Strathcona Beer Company – all in under 24 hours. For just $5 per delivery, Vancouverites can order Superflux and Strathcona beer to their home for same-day or next-day delivery ($35 minimum order). 100% of the delivery fee goes directly to the team at Strathcona who have lost wages due to the effects of COVID-19 on the local economy. The initiative will also help Strathcona avoid any further lay-offs.
Within the first 4.5 hours of going live, nearly $3,000 worth of beer was sold and more than $200 was raised to give back to the staff.
Delivery is currently available only within the City of Vancouver and Superflux and Strathcona are hoping to add more breweries to help support others in the community.
Beginning at 5 p.m. and available until close, Cibo Trattoria’s Valentine’s Day dinner menu offers couples four sumptuous courses of Italian-inspired fare prepared by Executive Chef Curtis Luk for $68 per person plus tax and gratuity, with menu items also available on an à-la-carte basis.
During the evening, UVA Wine & Cocktail Bar Manager Wyeth Maiers will also debut the special Valentine’s Day-inspired elixir called ‘Cupid’s Embrace’, which mingles rye, cassis, crème de violette, Lillet and Prosecco and is finished with watermelon radish petals in a vibrant lover’s libation.

Highlights of the Valentine’s Day dinner menu include an amuse bouche of poached sunseeker oyster followed by kampachi, kataifi-crusted scallop and an entrée choice of roasted branzino or prime beef striploin, with add-on enhancements as seared foie gras, Northern Divine Caviar and shaved Perigord truffles also available. The romantic repast ends on a high note with a dessert course of either chocolate jasmine or rose vacherin prepared by Pastry Chef Kenta Takahashi, who will also tempt the palates of guests with complimentary petits fours.
Origo Club will celebrate Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day in its signature inimitable style by offering a series of special Afternoon Tea services and Valentine’s Day dinner features this February.
To mark the occasion of Chinese New Year, Origo Club will extend its popular weekend Afternoon Tea service to Tuesday, February 5 through Saturday, February 9 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. and on Sunday, February 10 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. During those times, guests can pair a selection of gourmet small bites, pastries and sandwiches with a choice of coffee or tea for $45 each, with the option to add a glass of Barons de Rothschild Champagne for an additional $35 per person.
Origo Club’s exclusive Chinese New Year Afternoon Tea services offer an array of savoury delicacies such as canard et poire pochée au thym (seared duck breast, thyme poached pear) and scone au cheddar et à la ciboulette (cheddar and chive scone, butter, smoked salt, fresh cream) in addition to sweet selections like matcha mochi (glutinous rice ball, matcha whipped ganache) and biscuit chinois au sésame (white sesame fortune cookie) that pay homage to the traditional annual celebration.
On Thursday, February 14, Origo Club Head Chef David Pan will add a few Valentine’s Day specials to the dinner menu, including an entrée of tenderloin pepper steak with parsnips and fennel for $55 and a dessert course of white peach, meringue and blood orange sorbet for $16. Each table will also receive a special take-home box of milk chocolate-passionfruit truffles hand made by Pastry Chef Remi Ho.
